Read moreThe North Fork of the Stanislaus River is currently running at 460cfs, which is a huge increase in flow as the river has nearly doubled. At this flow, wading is not an option, and even walking along the edge of the river can be extremely dangerous.
With the high flows on the North Fork, combined with how well other water in the area is fishing, we highly recommend targeting other sections of the Stanislaus River. The Middle Fork and South Fork are both excellent alternatives and are offering much more approachable conditions for anglers right now.
There is plenty of other water in the area that can produce great fishing this time of year, so there is no reason to take unnecessary risks on the North Fork.
At 460cfs, we do not recommend fishing or approaching the North Fork. The combination of high flows and dangerous river edges makes this a poor choice right now.
Instead, take advantage of the Middle Fork, South Fork, and other nearby waters that are fishing well and offering safer conditions. Stop by the shop before heading out and we’ll get you pointed toward some productive water and the flies you’ll want in your box.
